The Randy Howard Memorial Trophy, presented to the Tennessee State Champion fiddler.

The Randy Howard Memorial Award, upon which are recorded the names of the Tennessee State Champion fiddlers since the Award's inception.

The winner of the Fiddle-Off Competition becomes the reigning State of Tennessee Old-Time Fiddle Champion and has their name added to the Randy Howard Memorial Award.

Randy Howard, four-time winner of the State of Tennessee Old-Time Fiddle Championship, was also SPBGMA Blue Grass Fiddle Player of the Year in 1996 and 1997, and IBMA Fiddle Player of the Year in 1999. The winner of every major fiddle contest in the United States, Randy was the last and youngest fiddler ever to win the North Carolina World Championship fiddle contest in 1979. He also won the prestigious Grand Masters Fiddle Championship in 1985, and was National Fiddle Champion eight times. He also won the National Championship Mandolin Contest in Winfield, Kansas in 1990, and was an accomplished acoustic & electric guitarist as well.

Randy's genius was cut short in 1999 after a four-year battle with cancer, and we are proud to honor his memory.
